Diagnostic microlaboratories
A new DNA nanochip, a particular type of diagnostic chip consisting of a grid of nanosensors, makes it possible to analyse samples as small as a single cell, eliminating the need to rely on traditional PCR techniques to propagate the genetic material being analysed, which can introduce errors.

Intracanicular dental implants
Microtomography with synchrotron light has long shown itself to be the best of the various techniques available for obtaining a three dimensional reconstruction of bony areas around dental implants.

Acetylcholinesterase enzyme

Anti-Alzheimer molecules
With X-ray diffraction techniques it has been possible to obtain detailed information on the structure of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase which is active in the transmission of nerve signals and is targeted by Alzheimer's disease.

Drugs to counter ischemic ictus
X-ray diffraction was employed at Elettra to study the crystallographic structure of an innovative drug, for patients affected by ischemic ictus.

Medical radiology with synchrotron light
A technique for image acquisition with synchrotron light, which allows X-rays of appropriate energy to be selected for the specimen under examination, has been developed at Elettra.
